Gujarat’s Rajkot is gearing up for significant urban development projects to enhance residents’ quality of life under the state government’s ‘Ease of Living’ vision. The initiatives encompass a new sports complex, a convention centre, modern housing, a water filter plant, and a lion safari park. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation is actively progressing construction work citywide, focusing on housing, bridges, and roads to elevate the city’s infrastructure.
Once completed, these projects will offer citizens modern amenities and recreational facilities, as per officials. Notably, an international-standard sports complex is in the works in Ward No. 17, designed to cater to high-level training needs and competitive environments for athletes in Rajkot and the broader Saurashtra region. The city’s housing infrastructure is also undergoing enhancements, with the finalization of 1,010 EWS-II type housing units in the Railnagar area, costing over Rs 119 crore.
Furthermore, the government has allocated funds for a modern convention centre and a working women’s hostel, with the latter being constructed with a budget of Rs 49 crore. The city’s water infrastructure is being expanded to meet growing demands, with plans for a 50 MLD filter plant at Nyara and additional reservoir developments in Madhapar. The Lion Safari Park project is making swift progress, with completed work including safety measures for animals and visitors, internal park roads, and night shelters.
These projects are seen as complementary to existing infrastructure developments like Atal Sarovar, AIIMS, the international airport, and various flyovers, collectively enhancing urban living standards in Rajkot.
