On Sourav Ganguly’s 54th birthday, actor Rajkummar Rao revealed the first look of the cricketer’s upcoming biopic, “DADA: The Sourav Ganguly Story,” scheduled to release on May 14 next year. The poster depicts Rajkummar portraying Ganguly, standing shirtless on Lord’s Cricket Ground balcony, recreating Ganguly’s iconic 2002 NatWest Trophy celebration with the Indian tricolour in the background.
The poster features the title “DADA” in blue letters along with the subtitle “The Sourav Ganguly Story” and a tagline stating, “He Didn’t Just Play The Game, He Changed It.” Ganguly, in his caption, extended birthday wishes to himself, sharing the poster on social media with the hashtags #Dada and #DadaTheSouravGangulyStory.
The biographical film, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg under Luv Films, stars Tanya Maniktala as Dona Ganguly. Known as the Maharaja of Indian Cricket, Ganguly led Team India to victory in the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy and multiple other tournaments during his tenure as captain. He retired from international cricket in 2008 and from all forms of cricket in 2012, having scored 11,363 runs in ODIs and receiving the Padma Shri award in 2004.
