Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended warm greetings to General Phan Van Giang on being appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister of Vietnam. General Giang assumed these roles on April 8 during Vietnam’s 16th National Assembly’s first session. Singh expressed India’s eagerness to enhance their longstanding defence ties under General Giang’s leadership.
India and Vietnam share a close relationship denoted as a comprehensive strategic partnership. This partnership was established during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Vietnam in 2016. The ties between the two nations are expected to strengthen further in various areas, including security, military exchanges, and defence industry collaboration.
Prime Minister Modi also congratulated To Lam on becoming Vietnam’s President and expressed willingness to collaborate closely with him. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Vietnam for the progress and prosperity of both nations.
