Defence Minister Rajnath Singh unveiled the Delegation of Financial Powers to DRDO (DFP-2026) on Monday, aiming to boost efficiency and accountability in defense R&D projects. The reform is set to empower various levels within the Department of Defence R&D, with a focus on enhancing functional capabilities. It includes dedicated financial provisions for trials, tests, and evaluation activities, among other critical aspects.
DFP-2026 is expected to expedite the production and integration of defense systems, platforms, and technologies developed through the R&D ecosystem. This initiative is geared towards fostering closer ties with industry and academia, aligning with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The reform is anticipated to bolster self-reliance in defense technologies and enhance the country’s defense readiness.
The event in the national capital saw the presence of key officials including Chief of Defence Staff General N.S. Raja Subramani and DRDO Chairman, Secretary, Defence Production, Sanjeev Kumar. The DRDO’s efforts in transferring indigenous technologies to Indian industries, through initiatives like Licensing Agreements for Transfer of Technology and the Technology Development Fund, play a vital role in supporting the ‘Make in India’ campaign and strengthening defense preparedness.
