Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ Meeting in Bishkek, emphasizing the need for a united front against terrorism, separatism, and extremism. Singh highlighted India’s stance on combating terrorism and stressed the importance of dismantling safe havens that harbor such threats.
Singh called for a comprehensive approach to tackle state-sponsored cross-border terrorism, emphasizing the need for a consistent and resolute stand against terrorist activities. He urged the SCO to take decisive actions against those who support or facilitate terrorism, underlining the importance of transforming regional security for peace and prosperity.
Emphasizing counter-terrorism as a core principle of the SCO, Singh referenced the Tianjin Declaration and reiterated India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. He underscored the significance of collective efforts in combating terrorism, separatism, and extremism, emphasizing the need for a unified approach to address these challenges effectively.
Singh also discussed the role of the SCO’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure and highlighted the organization’s commitment to countering radicalization leading to terrorism. He emphasized the shared responsibility of SCO members in ensuring both regional and global peace and stability, advocating for dialogue and diplomacy over the use of force.
