The Rajya Sabha faced disruptions as the House discussed the ongoing SIR exercise in poll-bound states. Mallikarjun Kharge accused the voter verification drive of irregularities, leading to a heated exchange with House Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan. Despite Kharge labeling SIR a “fraud,” Radhakrishnan denied the allegations.
Congress MPs supported Kharge’s claims, causing chaos in the Upper House. Radhakrishnan dismissed the accusations, particularly regarding Tamil Nadu, and halted further discussion on the matter. The session was marred by slogans and disagreements between the members.
Kharge criticized the government and Election Commission, alleging electoral fraud through the SIR process in states like Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Radhakrishnan countered Kharge’s statements, emphasizing the situation in Bengal and refuting the claims of fraud. The issue of SIR was also raised by Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien, who criticized the voter verification drive as a violation of people’s rights.
