After facing multiple adjournments, the Rajya Sabha failed to conduct significant business on Wednesday, with only a few papers being tabled. The day was marked by heated debates over the NEET paper leak issue, leading to a complete standstill in the Upper House.

When the House reconvened at 3 p.m. after several interruptions, DMK MP Tiruchi Siva highlighted the urgency of discussing the current national situation in Parliament. This followed Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh’s comments on invoking Rule 267 only in the “rarest of rare” cases, sparking disagreements from the Opposition.

Subsequently, the Deputy Chairman allowed Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to speak, who criticized the Congress party for changing their stance on the discussion. Rijiju emphasized the government’s readiness to address the NEET paper leak issue and urged senior members to collaborate for the House’s functioning.

The day witnessed a back-and-forth between the government and the Opposition, with Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge questioning the government’s handling of student protests. Amid continuous disruptions and slogans, the House was adjourned for the day by Deputy Chairman Harivansh, halting crucial legislative work during the monsoon session.

The ongoing deadlock over the NEET paper leak has persisted for days, with the Opposition demanding accountability and thorough discussions, while the government stresses adherence to parliamentary procedures. This impasse is likely to impact the Rajya Sabha’s productivity in the days ahead.
