Rajya Sabha member Harsh Vardhan Shringla stated that the resignation of Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee before the oath-taking of the new Chief Minister is inconsequential. As per Shringla, the government’s term has ended, and per the Constitution, she will no longer hold the Chief Minister position. He emphasized that regardless of resignation, the new government will commence operations following the swearing-in ceremony.
Shringla questioned the historical political norm, highlighting that leaders across party lines have traditionally resigned after electoral defeats. He stressed the importance of upholding political traditions and urged for a graceful exit post the electoral loss. Shringla also expressed optimism about the upcoming development-focused policies set to begin implementation promptly.
The dissolution of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly by Governor R.N. Ravi has officially marked Mamata Banerjee as the “former Chief Minister” of West Bengal. Despite this, her social media profiles still maintain her Chief Minister title, reflecting her stance post the recent electoral outcome. Banerjee’s refusal to submit her resignation post the electoral defeat has stirred controversy, with her contesting the legitimacy of the election results.
