Ramit Tandon and Velavan Senthilkumar were eliminated in the men’s opening round of the World Squash Championships in Giza, Egypt. Tandon, ranked 40th globally, lost to Egyptian Kareem El Torkey, ranked 21st, in a closely fought match. Senthilkumar, ranked 50th, was defeated by Victor Crouin from France, who is ranked 5th in the world.
Veer Chotrani, after a challenging start, managed to defeat Abhay Singh in the first round. Chotrani faced a tough battle but rallied to win the next two games, securing a spot in the second round. He expressed his satisfaction at overcoming a fellow Indian player in a crucial match at the Championships.
Chotrani’s next opponent in the second round will be Mostafa Asal, the top-ranked player from Egypt and the defending champion. Last year, India’s campaign at the World Championships ended in the second round, with no medals won in the singles events. Anahat Singh, Veer Chotrani, Abhay Singh, Ramit Tandon, and Velavan Senthilkumar all exited the tournament after competitive performances.
