A Range Forest Officer (RFO) lost his life in a road accident while chasing alleged timber smugglers in Gujarat’s Tapi district. Vikas Desai, stationed in the Tapti Range, was pursuing a vehicle transporting illegally obtained khair timber when the fatal incident occurred. The state government has vowed a thorough probe and reiterated its strong stance against crimes targeting forest resources.
Forest and Environment Minister Arjun Modhwadia honored Desai’s commitment to duty and expressed deep condolences to his family. Desai’s actions in response to the reported timber theft were praised for his unwavering dedication and sense of responsibility. The minister emphasized the Forest Department’s vital role in safeguarding nature and future generations, highlighting the importance of protecting Gujarat’s forests and wildlife.
Modhwadia, on behalf of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and the state government, assured stringent action against illegal activities harming forest resources. Desai, a former Deputy Section Officer in the Secretariat, transitioned to the Forest Department three years ago. Survived by his parents, wife, and young son, Desai’s tragic demise has drawn condolences from Minister of State for Forests Pravin Mali and senior Forest Department officials, who visited the bereaved family to offer their sympathies.
