The Rare Earths and Titanium Technology Park (RETTP) was officially opened in Bhopal, marking a significant advancement in India’s efforts to bridge the gap between research and industrial application. Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, inaugurated the facility, emphasizing its role in promoting indigenous technologies and supporting the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Developed by IREL (India) Limited, a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Department of Atomic Energy, the park is located in the Acharpura Industrial Area spanning 25 acres. It is designed to exhibit and scale up technologies from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) for adoption by industries and entrepreneurs.
The RETTP features pilot plants for showcasing the production of rare metals like neodymium, cerium, and lanthanum. It also includes a recycling unit to recover rare earth elements from end-of-life magnets, LED components, and lamp phosphors. Moreover, the park houses facilities related to the titanium value chain and a training center for professional skill development.
Officials highlighted that the technologies and materials developed at the park will play a crucial role in various sectors such as defense, space technology, electronics, renewable energy, and electric vehicles. Dr. Mohanty emphasized that the technology park will support startups and industries by instilling confidence in emerging technologies and aiding in the establishment of commercial plants in the rare earth sector.
