Sayali Satghare’s exceptional three-wicket haul and a solid batting display led by Gautami Naik guided Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women (RCB-W) to their sixth consecutive victory in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The team defeated Gujarat Giants by 61 runs in the 12th match at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, securing their spot in the playoffs with five wins out of five matches this season. This win also set a new WPL record for the most consecutive wins at six, surpassing previous streaks held by Mumbai Indians and RCB.
RCB, after being asked to bat first by Gujarat Giants skipper Ashleigh Gardner, faced a shaky start similar to the reverse fixture. Despite losing early wickets, a crucial partnership between Smriti Mandhana and Gautami Naik stabilized RCB’s innings. The team managed to score 178 runs in their 20 overs, with Naik impressively reaching her maiden WPL half-century off 42 balls.
In response, RCB’s aggressive bowling attack, spearheaded by Sayali Satghare, dismantled Gujarat Giants’ batting lineup early on. Satghare’s remarkable two-wicket over set the tone, followed by impactful contributions from other bowlers like Lauren Bell and Nadine de Klerk. Despite Gardner’s resilient half-century, Gujarat Giants could only muster 117 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs, falling short by 61 runs.
