Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Tim David has been fined 50% of his match fee and will miss the opening game of the 2027 Indian Premier League season after receiving two demerit points for breaching the Code of Conduct during the 2026 final against Gujarat Titans. David was penalized for throwing an ice bag aggressively towards the on-field umpire Nitin Menon during the match.
This incident marked David’s third Level 1 offence of the season, accumulating a total of five demerit points. As per IPL regulations, reaching five demerit points results in a one-match suspension. Consequently, David, who scored 305 runs in 16 games, will sit out RCB’s first fixture in the upcoming season.
Despite RCB’s victory in the final against Gujarat Titans, securing their second consecutive title, David’s suspension means the team will start their title defense without his contributions. RCB joins Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians as the only franchises to successfully defend their IPL crown.
Rajat Patidar made history by becoming the first captain to win the IPL in his first two seasons. He joins the ranks of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma as the only skippers to achieve back-to-back IPL triumphs.
