The rebel faction of Trinamool Congress, led by Ritabrata Banerjee, asserted that the committee formed on June 22 is the sole legitimate committee of the party. Banerjee, the Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, cited directives from an Alipore court to support this claim. He emphasized that no other committee can represent Trinamool Congress.
During the Trinamool National Working Committee meeting on June 22, Howrah Madhya MLA Arup Roy was elected as the chairman of the party, as per Banerjee. The court’s ruling declared Roy’s committee as the only legally valid one for Trinamool Congress. Banerjee stated that any claim to party leadership outside Roy’s committee is unauthorized and illegal.
Ritabrata Banerjee also addressed the issue of Trinamool Congress party office in Kolkata’s Metropolitan area. He made it clear that only the faction led by Arup Roy can utilize the party building in Metropolitan. Banerjee emphasized that no one outside Roy’s Trinamool Congress is permitted to access the party offices or resources. He announced plans to visit the Metropolitan office soon.
Speculation arose regarding former Trinamool MLA Nirmal Ghosh joining the rebel camp after attending a meeting. Banerjee denied any association with Ghosh. The rebel faction is gearing up to observe Martyrs’ Day in Kolkata on July 21, with preparations underway for the event. Banerjee assured that necessary arrangements would be made for mobilizing supporters.
