A group of 20 rebel Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha members, led by Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Stabdi Roy, are contemplating legal action against Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra. This move comes after Moitra made allegedly defamatory remarks about the rebel MPs on social media. The controversy arose when Moitra accused the MPs of accepting money to join the virtually unknown National Citizens Party of India (NCPI).
Moitra, who remains loyal to Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, accused the rebel MPs of leaving Trinamool Congress for financial gain. She claimed that each MP received a substantial sum, with rumors suggesting amounts as high as Rs 40 crore. The rebel MPs, now dispersed across different regions, held a virtual meeting to discuss the possibility of taking legal action against Moitra for her statements.
Stabdi Roy hinted at the potential defamation suit, indicating that the rebel MPs are actively considering this course of action. Apart from the Lok Sabha members, even rebel legislators in the West Bengal Assembly have faced criticism from Moitra on social media. She has accused them of betrayal and suggested that they should resign before criticizing the Trinamool Congress leadership.
