Veteran actress Reena Roy disclosed on “The Kapil Sharma Show” that she was not the initial pick for the iconic movie ‘Naagin.’ Before her, the filmmakers had approached top actresses like Rekha and Asha Parekh, who all turned down the role. Despite her mother’s initial disapproval, Roy took on the part due to its unique and interesting storyline. Following the success of “Naagin,” Roy’s popularity soared, and people even started fearing her.
The film, backed and directed by Rajkumar Kohli under Shankar Movies, featured a star-studded cast including Sunil Dutt, Feroz Khan, Jeetendra, and Rekha. Inspired by François Truffaut’s 1968 film “The Bride Wore Black,” the 1976 blockbuster was a remake of Cornell Woolrich’s novel. The music for “Naagin” was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal, contributing to its immense success and making Roy a renowned star in the industry.
The project’s triumph at the box office propelled Roy to stardom, solidifying her status as a leading actress in the industry. The film’s popularity led to a Tamil remake titled “Neeya?” starring Sripriya in the lead role. With its memorable tunes and compelling storyline, “Naagin” remains a classic in Indian cinema history, marking a significant milestone in Reena Roy’s career.
