The Regional Science Centres in Gujarat have collectively welcomed more than 25 lakh visitors in the past four years. These centers, established under the Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST), serve as vital platforms for promoting scientific awareness, interactive education, and innovation-based learning. Positioned strategically across various regions, from urban to rural areas, the centers offer programs tailored for students, teachers, and the general public.
Officials highlighted that the development of these science centers occurred over the last 12 years, aligning with a broader emphasis on science outreach in Gujarat and national efforts to foster scientific curiosity, particularly under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The state government, under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, continues to endorse the expansion of science infrastructure through educational and technological initiatives, with guidance from Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia.
The four centers have collectively hosted more than 25.64 lakh science enthusiasts, including students, teachers, and general visitors, through engaging exhibitions, workshops, and interactive demonstrations. Notably, the Patan Regional Science Centre, inaugurated on May 1, 2022, has emerged as a significant hub for science education in North Gujarat. With over 14.86 lakh visitors, the center has actively engaged with schools, reaching more than seven lakh individuals through various outreach programs.
J.C. Pandya, the then Mission Director of NHM, Gandhinagar, praised the Patan Regional Science Centre for providing an exceptional experience to science enthusiasts through its informative galleries. The center has also focused on sustainability by installing a 200 kW solar power plant in 2025, receiving recognition through the National Energy Conservation Award. Offering a wide range of workshops, lecture series, and science shows, the center provides hands-on training in diverse fields like robotics, DNA studies, hydroponics, and mechatronics.
