Renowned academician and former Chemistry Professor at Osmania University, Hyderabad, Shivaraj, has taken over as the new Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) in Arunachal Pradesh. Upon assuming office, Shivaraj met with Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K.T. Parnaik (Retd), who serves as the Chief Rector of the university. The Governor commended Shivaraj on his new role and expressed optimism that under his leadership, RGU would further excel in higher education, innovation, and knowledge creation.
Highlighting the academic and research prospects in Arunachal Pradesh, the Governor advised Shivaraj to promote research on the state’s biodiversity, indigenous traditions, natural resources, environmental conservation, and socio-economic development. Such research, he noted, would not only advance academics but also aid sustainable development and policymaking in the region. Emphasizing the importance of sports, wellness initiatives, community engagement, and extension activities, the Governor stressed the significance of nurturing responsible citizens who can contribute meaningfully to society and nation-building.
During their discussion, Lt Gen Parnaik (Retd) underscored the values of professionalism, discipline, punctuality, and dedication to scholarly pursuits, asserting that these values should define the institution. He urged the university community to create an environment conducive to intellectual growth through active involvement of faculty, staff, researchers, and students. The Governor further called for enhancing academic standards, fostering innovation, interdisciplinary learning, and promoting research collaborations to elevate the university’s national and international standing.
Shivaraj assured the Chief Rector of his unwavering commitment to enhancing academic excellence, supporting socially relevant research, enhancing institutional governance, and cultivating an inclusive and intellectually stimulating campus environment. He pledged to build on the university’s accomplishments and collaborate closely with stakeholders to position Rajiv Gandhi University as a premier hub of higher education, innovation, and societal engagement in the Northeast. Former Vice-Chancellor in-charge Prof. S.K. Nayak and Registrar N.T. Rikam were also present at the meeting held at Lok Bhavan.
