Hundreds of local residents in Jammu and Srinagar expressed gratitude towards the government for introducing a direct Vande Bharat train service between the two cities. This new service is seen as a solution to escape the heavy traffic on the National Highway, with particular benefits anticipated for students and tourists. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the service, with public operations set to begin from May 2.
Passengers, especially those relying on the Srinagar-Katra route, highlighted the positive impact of the new train service. They emphasized the existing challenges due to road closures and expensive flight tickets, making the train service a welcome and cost-effective alternative. One passenger praised the decision, foreseeing benefits for both local residents and tourism in the region.
The improved situation in the area was acknowledged by another passenger, who credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Lieutenant Governor, and the Chief Minister for the initiative. Optimism surrounds the new train service, expected to alleviate the traffic congestion on the National Highway, offering convenience and boosting tourism. Security measures along the route have been reinforced, with 2000 security cameras and drone surveillance enhancing safety up to Jammu.
SSP GRP, Kashmir, Wasim Qadri, highlighted the extension of the Vande Bharat train service from Srinagar to Katra. He stressed the heightened security measures in place, including surveillance through security cameras and watch towers every 2 kilometers. The security setup aims to ensure a safe corridor for passengers. Kapil Sharma, Chief Area Manager Kashmir Northern Railway, mentioned the significance of the expanded service, offering increased capacity and comfort at an affordable cost.
