Residents of Mashkay in Pakistan’s Balochistan are experiencing food and essential supplies shortages due to ongoing curfew and movement restrictions by Pakistani forces. The curfew has limited movement in Mashkay, leading to a lack of food and essential items for the locals. This situation has made it challenging for sick individuals to seek medical care, as reported by The Balochistan Post.
Locals have voiced concerns about the adverse impact of the curfew on daily life in Mashkay, exacerbating difficulties for the residents. Official statements regarding the imposed restrictions and the rationale behind the curfew have not been released by authorities. Similar restrictions and lockdowns have been observed in other regions like Noshki and Zehri, where residents have faced constraints on movement, trade, and healthcare access, according to The Balochistan Post.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has strongly criticized the continuous curfew in Mashkay, alleging that it is part of a broader strategy to disrupt public life. BYC highlighted how the restrictions have confined people to their homes, impeding their freedom of movement and causing significant hardships. The BYC condemned the denial of basic facilities, labeling it a severe violation of human rights and a manifestation of state oppression.
BYC emphasized the detrimental impact of the curfew on education and healthcare, citing the closure of schools and harassment faced by patients and their families in hospitals. The organization urged international human rights bodies to intervene promptly, address the curfew in Mashkay and other Balochistan areas, safeguard public rights, and oppose such repressive measures.
