The Ring Road project’s initial phase in Vadodara, a significant infrastructure endeavor to enhance traffic flow and regional connectivity, has been finished. The 27.5-kilometer section, costing around Rs 316 crore, is part of a larger 66-kilometer ring road planned for the city.
The project, with an estimated total cost of Rs 1,500 crore, is progressing through five phases led by the Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) and the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC). The proposed 75-meter wide road aims to bolster connections between South Gujarat, North Gujarat, Saurashtra, and the Mumbai–Delhi Expressway, linking various state highways, expressways, and National Highway-48.
Designed with insights from experts at Ahmedabad’s CEPT University, the project is segmented into eastern and western sections. Municipal Commissioner Arun Mahesh Babu noted that completing the first phase will enhance traffic management within the city and preparations for the second phase are underway.
The ring road, equipped with amenities like service roads, advanced drainage, and lighting, is expected to alleviate congestion by redirecting heavy vehicles from city streets. Local residents anticipate reduced traffic jams and smoother traffic movement, foreseeing a positive impact on daily travel time.
Officials project that upon full completion, the ring road will alleviate congestion in Vadodara, divert through-traffic, and enhance overall traffic flow. Additionally, it is poised to stimulate infrastructure growth in surrounding areas, fostering the development of logistics and industrial hubs, thereby boosting economic activity in the region.
