The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Devajit Saikia, confirmed that Rinku Singh, a left-handed batsman, will rejoin Team India in Kolkata for their upcoming T20 World Cup match against West Indies. Rinku had rushed home due to his father’s demise from liver cancer and is set to return to the squad.
Rinku Singh, part of India’s T20 World Cup squad, left Chennai early to attend his father’s last rites in New Delhi. His father, Khanchand, had been hospitalized in Greater Noida and passed away after being on ventilator support.
Despite his personal loss, Rinku rejoined the team before the match against Zimbabwe but did not play. The cricket fraternity, including the BCCI and Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, expressed condolences for his father’s passing and extended support to Rinku and his family.
BCCI President Mithun Manhas also offered his heartfelt condolences to Rinku Singh and his family. Rinku, who has struggled to perform in the World Cup so far, will aim to make an impact as India faces West Indies in a crucial match for a spot in the semi-finals.
