Rishabh Pant made a strategic decision not to bat during Lucknow Super Giants’ match against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2026. Despite being ready to bat, Pant chose to give opportunities to players who had not played much in the tournament. This move came after Lucknow had a solid start in the chase of 188 runs.
Nicholas Pooran, Abdul Samad, and Mukul Choudhary were sent in to bat after Lucknow lost three quick wickets. Pant, who was padded up and prepared to bat, stayed back in the dugout. Lucknow eventually won the match comfortably with seven wickets in hand. Pant explained that the decision was made after discussions within the team management.
During the post-match presentation, Pant mentioned that the idea was to provide chances to players who had not received many opportunities. He admitted that initially, he was unsure about not going out to bat but respected the decision made by the team management. Pant, who has been a consistent performer throughout the season, has mostly batted at the top order.
The franchise had initially planned to use foreign batsmen at the top of the order, with two overseas players opening the innings. However, injuries and inconsistency affected the team’s plans. Despite the challenges faced, Pant expressed confidence in the team’s abilities. He highlighted the importance of implementing the team’s strategies effectively to achieve success in the tournament.
Pant also acknowledged the difficulty of managing different opinions within the team environment. He emphasized the need to streamline thought processes to avoid confusion and ensure a cohesive team approach.
