RJD criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his remarks expediting the implementation of the CAA, accusing the BJP of using such issues to polarize voters along religious lines. Shah, in Kolkata, stated that citizenship under the CAA would be fast-tracked in West Bengal to eliminate infiltrators, while inaugurating a statue of Syama Prasad Mookerjee at Eco Park.
Reacting to Shah’s comments, RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari emphasized the importance of upholding the country’s laws and Constitution over personal agendas that fuel division. BJP Bihar President Sanjay Saraogi defended the CAA, highlighting its provisions for granting citizenship to minorities from neighboring countries who arrived before 2014.
JD(U) MLA Shyam Rajak stressed the need for granting citizenship based on legal criteria rather than religious or caste factors. Rajak emphasized the importance of evaluating each application on its merits to ensure decisions are made in the national interest, not on religious grounds.
