RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Kumar Jha has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking intervention to safeguard the rights of gig and platform delivery workers who are facing exploitation. Jha highlighted the recent nationwide strike by delivery workers on December 25, 2025, which disrupted services in various cities due to long-standing issues.
In his letter, Jha emphasized the challenges faced by gig workers, including deteriorating working conditions, declining incomes, and lack of effective grievance redressal mechanisms. He criticized platform companies for responding to the strike with arbitrary measures like blocking worker IDs and imposing penalties, which he deemed as a violation of workers’ rights.
Jha also raised concerns about the nature of gig work, citing dangerous delivery models and inadequate payments for workers. He urged the Prime Minister to address key demands, including bringing platform companies under labor laws, ensuring fair wages, and providing social security benefits to gig workers.
Concluding his letter, Jha called for immediate government action to protect gig and platform workers and build a digital economy based on justice and dignity.
