Political activity heightened in Bihar as the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) selected former MLC Sunil Kumar Singh as its candidate for the Legislative Council elections. Singh submitted his nomination papers at the Bihar Legislative Assembly in the presence of senior party members on the final day of nominations. Following the announcement, Rohini Acharya, daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav, publicly criticized the decision, citing concerns over Singh’s political approach.
Rohini Acharya took to social media to express her reservations, accusing Sunil Singh of engaging in factionalism, sabotage, and betrayal in his political endeavors. She alleged that Singh maintained connections with political rivals and misused his closeness to party leadership. Acharya also claimed that Singh’s behavior towards party workers and officials had been inappropriate and disrespectful, questioning the rationale behind his candidacy.
Despite internal dissent, the RJD reaffirmed its support for Sunil Kumar Singh, known for his proximity to former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi. The party’s decision has sparked debate, with Rohini Acharya emphasizing the importance of entrusting responsibilities to committed grassroots workers. She highlighted the discontent among party members and supporters due to the overlooking of long-serving leaders from various communities.
In the lead-up to the Bihar Legislative Council elections, the RJD’s backing of Sunil Singh is seen as strategic, given the party’s favorable position to secure a seat based on current Assembly dynamics. With approximately 25 MLAs’ support needed for victory, Singh’s election is anticipated due to the Mahagathbandhan’s numerical strength in the Assembly.
