A section of road in Noida’s Sector 73 collapsed due to heavy rainfall, raising worries about construction standards and supervision near an ongoing commercial project. The incident also caused damage to nearby structures like a banquet hall and an electricity transformer, leading to chaos and concern among residents. Eyewitnesses blame the collapse on ignored safety protocols during construction, prompting the Noida Authority to launch an investigation.
The road cave-in occurred in the Sarfabad area of Sector 73, with reports suggesting that the construction work for a D-Mart store was in progress at the site. Locals allege that water accumulation in an excavated basement and construction negligence weakened the soil, contributing to the collapse. The Noida Authority’s drain and an electricity transformer were also impacted, with the banquet hall next to the site tilting dangerously and closed for public safety.
The incident has sparked calls for timely inspections and precautions to prevent such mishaps in the future. Noida Authority CEO Krishna Kumar Karunesh assured a thorough investigation into the matter, emphasizing that strict action will be taken if negligence is found on the part of the construction agency or builder. Security measures have been heightened in the affected area, urging caution around the construction site.
