Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma faced a quick exit, getting out for a golden duck in Mumbai’s match against Uttarakhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite Group C. Rohit was caught at deep fine leg by Akash Madhwal Bora off the final delivery of the first over, with Jagmohan Nagarkoti securing the catch after an initial fumble.
The 38-year-old batsman had recently made a remarkable return to domestic cricket by scoring a century in his first Vijay Hazare Trophy match in seven years against Sikkim. Rohit’s century was his 37th in List A cricket, in addition to his 33 international centuries for India.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, the star batsman for Delhi, continued his good form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy by scoring 77 runs against Gujarat Elite Group D in Bengaluru. Kohli’s innings included 14 boundaries and featured partnerships with Arpit Rana, Nitish Rana, and Rishabh Pant before being dismissed by Vishal Jayswal in the 22nd over.
Kohli’s recent achievement of reaching 16,000 List A runs places him as the second Indian player, after Sachin Tendulkar, to achieve this milestone. Despite his illustrious career, Kohli is still chasing Tendulkar’s record of 60 centuries in List A cricket, as he currently holds 57 centuries.
In his comeback to the Vijay Hazare Trophy after nearly a decade, Kohli played for Delhi against Andhra Pradesh at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. His return to the tournament marks a significant milestone in his cricketing journey.
