Russia and Ukraine are in the process of organizing another prisoner exchange, with both sides working on finalizing the lists, as confirmed by Dimitry Peskov, the Presidential Press Secretary in Moscow. Peskov mentioned that coordinating the lists is the most challenging aspect of the process but is progressing rapidly.
Yuri Ushakov, a Russian presidential aide, disclosed that Russia had accepted a proposal from US President Donald Trump for a ceasefire between May 9 and 11 and a reciprocal exchange of 1,000 prisoners with Kyiv. This initiative was announced in light of the 81st anniversary of the Soviet people’s victory in World War II.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that Ukraine has submitted a list of 1,000 detainees to Russia for the anticipated prisoner swap. Zelensky emphasized the importance of ending the conflict with Russia and ensuring reliable security measures.
The Russian Federation and Ukraine are actively collaborating to finalize the prisoner lists, with preparations for the exchange underway upon reaching an agreement. The Russian Ministry of Defence reported that the “special military operation” by Russian troops is ongoing after the ceasefire ended, accusing Kyiv of over 30,000 ceasefire violations during this period.
