The Russian Ministry of Defence has declared a ceasefire from midnight on May 8 until May 10 in the conflict with Ukraine. This ceasefire coincides with the 81st anniversary of the Soviet people’s victory in World War II. The Ministry stated that the ceasefire was in line with the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, speaking at a summit, mentioned Russia’s Victory Parade on May 9 without defense equipment. He expressed concerns about potential drone activity during the event. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova criticized EU countries for not addressing Zelensky’s remarks and accused them of disrespecting Soviet history.
In response to Zelensky’s warning of a possible drone attack on Moscow’s parade, Russian diplomats and military officials cautioned of a potential missile strike on central Kyiv. They emphasized that despite having the capability, they had refrained from such actions. The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the Armenian ambassador over Zelensky’s comments and expressed strong disapproval of Armenia providing a platform for what they termed as terrorist threats.
