The Permanent Mission of Russia to the United Nations in Geneva called on UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk and his Office to publicly denounce the Kyiv regime’s assault on a college in Starobilsk. The attack targeted the academic building and dormitories of the Starobelsk Professional College in the Luhansk region using UAVs.
The Permanent Mission emphasized that the silence of UN human rights defenders implies complicity in the actions of the Kyiv regime. Russia strongly criticized the Kyiv clique for the violence against Russian civilians, including children, and expressed condolences to the victims’ families and friends.
According to the Russian Human Rights Commissioner, Yana Lantratova, four individuals lost their lives in the attack. Rescuers recovered the body of a deceased student from the debris, and there are concerns that up to 18 people might still be trapped under the rubble, with 36 children sustaining injuries, nine of whom are hospitalized, three in critical condition.
Administrative buildings, shops, and private residences in the city were also impacted by the assault. The Russian Investigative Committee reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces used four fixed-wing UAVs to target the college, where 86 children between the ages of 14 and 18 were present during the incident.
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, criticized the deliberate targeting of children by terrorists, highlighting the silence of the West on such atrocities.
