Russia’s Foreign Ministry has informed the Romanian Ambassador about retaliatory actions following the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Constanta. The Ministry declared the Consul General of Romania in St. Petersburg as persona non grata and announced the impending closure of the consular office in response to Bucharest’s actions.
The closure of the Russian Consulate General in Constanta was triggered by a maritime drone explosion in Romania’s Constanta port, which fortunately did not result in any casualties. Romanian President Nicusor Dan decided to close the consulate and declare the Consul General persona non grata after a drone crash incident in Galati.
The decision to close the Russian Consulate General in Constanta was made after discussions at the country’s Supreme Council of National Defence regarding drone attacks near Romania’s river border. A drone penetrated Romanian airspace, crashed in Galati, and caused a fire on a residential apartment building, as reported by the Romanian Ministry of National Defence.
