Russia is looking to employ 40,000 Indian workers this year due to a labor shortage, with 70,000-80,000 Indians already working there. Agreements were signed between India and Russia to enhance the mobility of Indian workers, aiming to prevent past issues faced by Indian workers. Recent reports highlighted Indian workers recruited for street-cleaning and road maintenance duties in Russia.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized India’s strong entrepreneurial ecosystem and skilled workforce, mentioning India’s potential to help address Russia’s projected shortage of skilled professionals. Russia’s demand for 500,000 semi-skilled workers is prompting collaborations with friendly nations to meet the labor needs.
