Saayoni Ghosh, a Trinamool Congress MP and actor, clarified that a 2015 social media post showing a condom on a Shivling was not created or shared by her. She stated that her account had been hacked in 2021 when the post resurfaced, and she had publicly apologized for it.
Ghosh emphasized that she did not intend to hurt religious sentiments and had promptly removed the post once she became aware of it. She highlighted that the controversial cartoon was not of her making and urged for an investigation into its origin.
The issue has drawn significant public and political attention, with Ghosh alleging that it is being exploited to target her as an Opposition leader. She accused BJP leaders of issuing death threats against her due to her vocal criticism of the government.
Ghosh expressed concerns over the threats and violence directed at her, pointing out the contradiction between such actions and the BJP’s stance on women’s empowerment. She asserted that the controversy was an attempt to suppress her dissenting voice and divert attention from important political discussions.
