India’s cricket icons Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli expressed grief over the demise of renowned playback singer Asha Bhosle at 92 in Mumbai. Bhosle, who was hospitalized at Breach Candy Hospital, will be cremated at Shivaji Park on Monday at 4:00 pm, as announced by Maharashtra’s Culture Minister Ashish Shelar.
Tendulkar, who had a close bond with Bhosle, paid tribute on social media, recalling her with fondness and respect as a Padma Vibhushan awardee. He described her as family and praised her timeless music that will forever resonate. Kohli, currently playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2026, shared condolences via an Instagram story, highlighting Bhosle’s everlasting impact through her melodious voice.
Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, also mourned Bhosle’s loss, acknowledging her elegance and unparalleled talent. Bhosle, a pioneer in the music industry, began her career with the 1943 Marathi film ‘Majha Bal’ and gained fame for hit songs like ‘Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko’ and ‘Ye Ladka Hai Allah Kaisa Hai Diwana’, sung in multiple languages.
Throughout her illustrious career, Bhosle collaborated with esteemed music composers and amassed a repertoire of nearly 12,000 songs. Her exceptional talent earned her accolades such as the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, solidifying her legacy as a musical icon.
