The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) revealed plans for a “Dharam Yudh Morcha” starting from Sri Akal Takht Sahib on July 19 to oust Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accused of sacrilege. SAD President Sukhbir Badal emphasized the seriousness of Mann’s actions against Sikh beliefs and heroes, urging various groups and political parties to unite against him. A five-member coordination panel, led by Sardar Balwinder Singh Bhunder, has been formed to rally support for the protest.
Badal asserted that Akali legislators would boycott the Vidhan Sabha until Mann is removed from office, citing allegations of misconduct by Mann’s family. He criticized Mann for tarnishing the Sikh community’s reputation and recalled a previous incident in January 2024 where Mann was censured by Sri Akal Takht Sahib for his involvement in a gurdwara police firing incident.
