Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders have strongly criticized the government following a raid at the Amritsar residence of senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia. The leaders allege that the raid, which occurred after a clash, was politically motivated and part of a broader campaign against the Opposition.
The raid took place at Majithia’s Green Avenue residence after a political standoff and clash at a local police station. Subsequently, the Amritsar Police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Majithia and several Akali Dal workers.
In response to the incident, SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal accused the ruling dispensation of carrying out a political agenda against the senior Akali leader. He labeled the action as political vendetta and claimed it was a planned operation by the Punjab government.
SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal also raised concerns about the police action and alleged irregularities in handling the case. She questioned the sequence of events and criticized the registration of an FIR against Majithia.
The raid at Majithia’s residence is the latest development in the ongoing conflict between Bikram Singh Majithia and the Punjab government. The senior Akali leader has been embroiled in various investigations and legal battles in recent years, including an arrest by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in June 2025. While the Punjab Police states that the searches were part of an investigation related to the FIR from the police station clash, the SAD contends that the government is using law enforcement agencies for political purposes.
