Sadhguru’s Isha Gramotsavam, known for integrating sports into rural life in India, will launch in Haryana this month. Swami Pulaka, the national coordinator, highlighted the positive impact of the event on villages, emphasizing community unity and healthier lifestyles. The tournament aims to build on Haryana’s strong sporting heritage, fostering village togetherness and inspiring rural youth and women.
The event will feature cluster-level matches in various cities of Haryana, leading to divisional rounds and a grand finale. Unlike professional sports, Isha Gramotsavam is tailored for rural citizens, encouraging participation from various backgrounds. Participants have already reported positive changes, with many shifting away from unhealthy habits towards sports and community engagement.
Participants in the tournament, open to all rural citizens, have shared their transformative experiences. Anuj Jaglan, a dairy farmer, praised the event for steering youth away from addictions and towards sports. Isha Gramotsavam offers a prize pool exceeding Rs 1 crore, with cash awards at different stages to recognize and motivate participants.
The tournament’s inclusive nature has attracted diverse participants, including a 66-year-old female farmer defying age stereotypes by forming a women’s throwball team. Her story exemplifies how Isha Gramotsavam empowers women of all ages to embrace sports, fostering community bonds. The event will not only take place in Haryana but also in several other states as part of Isha Outreach’s rural development efforts.
