Sai Sudharsan created history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by reaching 2,000 runs in just 47 innings, making him the quickest batter to achieve this milestone. Surpassing Chris Gayle, who took 48 innings, Sudharsan has amassed over 2,000 runs in 47 matches, displaying remarkable consistency with a high average and strike rate, including multiple fifties and centuries.
This achievement comes amidst a relatively subdued IPL 2026 season for Sudharsan, where he initially struggled, scoring only 135 runs in his first six innings and facing challenges in converting good starts into big scores. He became the second player in his franchise to accomplish this feat, leading the innings with an impressive 85 off 49 balls, comprising nine fours and four sixes, and ranking among the fastest to reach this milestone in terms of balls faced, totaling 1,361.
Sudharsan’s stellar performance also sheds light on Gujarat’s batting issues, particularly the inconsistency in the middle order, which places additional pressure on him, along with captain Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bengaluru is on the verge of a significant milestone, needing just 92 runs to become the first player to reach 9,000 IPL runs, further enhancing the competition’s excitement.
