Salima Tete has been chosen to lead India at the FIH Women’s World Cup 2026, as announced by Hockey India. The 20-member squad, described as well-balanced by chief coach Sjoerd Marijne, includes a mix of experienced players and promising youngsters. The tournament, jointly hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium, is set to take place from August 15 to 30, 2026.
The squad, currently in training at a national camp in Bengaluru, impressed during recent international events, notably winning the FIH Nations Cup in New Zealand last month. The team showcased strong performances, lifting the trophy and maintaining an unbeaten record. The squad comprises goalkeepers Savita and Bichu Devi Kharibam, along with a defensive unit featuring players like Ishika Chaudhary and Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam.
In the midfield, captain Salima will be supported by players such as Nikki Pradhan and Sakshi Rana. The forward line includes talented players like Lalremsiami and Navneet Kaur. Coach Marijne expressed confidence in the team’s abilities, stating that they are prepared for the challenges ahead. The Indian team is placed in Pool D for the tournament, alongside China, England, and South Africa.
India’s pool-stage matches will be held at the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen, Netherlands. The team will kick off their campaign against China on August 16, followed by matches against South Africa and England on August 18 and 20, respectively.
