Samajwadi Party leader S. T. Hasan expressed serious concerns about the conduct of the West Bengal Assembly elections, citing irregularities in the voting process. Hasan alleged discrepancies such as the deletion of voters’ names and the denial of voting rights to a large number of people.
He mentioned that due to the alleged irregularities, including the removal of around 92 lakh votes and the disenfranchisement of nearly 32 lakh individuals, it became evident that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee might not return to power. Hasan criticized the Election Commission of India for not ensuring fair elections, suggesting that the BJP’s victory was influenced by both their performance and the conduct of the poll body.
Hasan acknowledged the possibility of anti-incumbency playing a role in the election outcome, noting that Banerjee’s long tenure of over 15 years could have contributed to this sentiment. He also raised doubts about the fairness of the electoral process, questioning whether Banerjee lost or was strategically made to lose, hinting at external influences beyond electoral factors.
Highlighting the importance of opposition unity to counter the BJP’s increasing dominance, Hasan warned that without solidarity among opposition parties, the BJP would continue to benefit. He emphasized the urgency of uniting against the communal atmosphere prevailing in the country to prevent further escalation.
