Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai criticized Congress’ new Uttar Pradesh in-charge, Rajendra Pal Gautam, for seeking equal seat-sharing in the upcoming UP Assembly polls. Rai accused Gautam of trying to establish his identity through such statements. Gautam, responding to Rai’s comments, emphasized the importance of unity to bring about a change in government.
Gautam, a former AAP leader and Delhi minister, was appointed as Congress’ new in-charge for Uttar Pradesh last week. This move came after the party’s poor performance in the 2022 Assembly elections where they secured only two seats. Rai highlighted the need for collaboration to strengthen the opposition alliance and meet people’s expectations.
Rai also referenced Gautam’s unscheduled visit to BSP supremo Mayawati’s home in Lucknow, stating that Gautam was relatively unknown before that incident. He urged Gautam to focus on working together to strengthen the alliance and fulfill the aspirations of the people.
