The Samajwadi Party (SP) is escalating its opposition to the potential demolition of buildings at Jauhar University in Rampur. A delegation of SP Members of Parliament is set to visit the district on Saturday to evaluate the situation and advocate against any immediate action. This move follows a prior visit by a delegation of MLAs, led by Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey, to Rampur.
Under the guidance of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, a nine-member parliamentary delegation will head to the district to gather firsthand information on the unfolding events related to the university. The MPs aim to engage with Rampur district officials, gather information on the issued notices to the university, and compile a detailed report for the party leadership. Additionally, they intend to request the administration to refrain from demolition until all legal and administrative matters are adequately addressed.
The SP delegation comprises Moradabad MP Ruchi Veera, Iqra Hasan, Harendra Singh Malik, Rajiv Rai, Mohibullah Nadvi, Neeraj Maurya, and Ziaur Rahman Barq, among other party MPs. The recent actions by the Rampur administration against Jauhar University stem from the discovery that 38 out of 40 buildings on the campus were erected without approved building maps or sanctioned plans. Consequently, demolition notices have been issued, instructing the university to dismantle the allegedly unauthorized structures within a 15-day period.
In the event of non-compliance within the stipulated timeframe, the district administration may proceed with demolition measures. The looming prospect of bulldozer action has sparked a political dispute, with the Samajwadi Party deeming the move unwarranted and advocating for the university’s protection. This issue has now evolved into a significant political contention in Uttar Pradesh, with the opposition emphasizing the need for administrative transparency while district authorities defend their actions based on alleged building regulation violations.
