India cricketer Sanju Samson reminisced about his early days, highlighting his surreal experience of attending Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) trials at just 14 years old in front of legends like Sourav Ganguly and John Buchanan. Despite recent struggles in the national team, Samson credited his childhood coach Biju George for kickstarting his career by facilitating his participation in the KKR trials.
Samson shared how his family faced challenges when they moved from Delhi to Thiruvananthapuram, including difficulties securing mid-term school admissions. Eventually, a friend of his father helped them gain admission to St. Joseph’s School, marking the beginning of their journey in Kerala.
Reflecting on his father’s efforts to connect with Biju George, now a talent scout at KKR, Samson revealed how his father’s persistent inquiries about cricket training in Kerala led them to George. Impressed by their natural ability, George quickly identified opportunities for both Samson and his brother in cricket, setting them on their respective paths in the sport.
Samson acknowledged the sacrifices made by his parents, emphasizing how their unwavering support and dedication fueled his passion for cricket from a young age. The cricketer highlighted the impact of his parents’ sacrifices, instilling in him a drive to excel on the field and make them proud, shaping his early career with a strong sense of purpose.
