Saptak Talwar, a 27-year-old Indian golfer, concluded the English Open on the HotelPlanner Tour in tied 12th place, narrowly missing a top 10 finish. Talwar’s impressive final round of four-under 68 brought his total score to 10-under-par for the tournament, just one stroke away from seventh place. This performance marked his best finish outside India this season and the second-best result overall after being runner-up at the DP World PGTI Open in March.
Talwar, who began the final day in a share of 24th place at six-under, made a significant climb up the leaderboard with a strong performance. He secured five birdies and only one bogey during the round, gaining shots on the second, 11th, 13th, 15th, and 17th holes. Despite a chance to break into the top 10 with a birdie on the 18th hole, he settled for par, ultimately finishing tied 12th.
Throughout the tournament, Talwar maintained his competitive edge, starting with a three-under 69 and following up with rounds of 71 and 70. His final round of 68 showcased a promising return to form as he looks ahead to upcoming events on the HotelPlanner Tour.
The English Open was won by American golfer John Catlin, who secured his first HotelPlanner Tour title after a seven-hole playoff against Norway’s Kristian Krogh Johannessen. Catlin’s bogey-free five-under 67 in the final round led to victory, while Johannessen’s flawless six-under 66 forced the playoff. After matching each other with six pars, Catlin clinched the win with a birdie on the seventh extra hole.
Notable former champions of the English Open, which made a comeback after 24 years, include Colin Montgomerie, Seve Ballesteros, Ian Woosnam, and Darren Clarke. With his win, Catlin joins this prestigious list of past winners. Other top finishers in the tournament included England’s Barclay Brown and Sweden’s Per Längfors in third place at 13-under-par, and Germany’s Alexander Knappe and American Jhared Hack tied for fifth place at 12-under.
