On the occasion of Sawai Madhopur’s 263rd Foundation Day, the district is set to make history by hosting India’s inaugural Guava Festival. The festival, inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at 11 a.m., combines the Foundation Day celebrations with a unique Tiger Festival and Guava Festival, showcasing the region’s wildlife and guava heritage.
Agriculture and Horticulture Minister Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena expressed pride in organizing this festival, emphasizing its significance in providing a national platform for farmers to exhibit their hard work and the agricultural prowess of the district. Dr. Meena highlighted that Sawai Madhopur boasts over 15,000 hectares of guava cultivation, yielding around 4 lakh metric tonnes annually, contributing significantly to the local economy.
The Guava Festival is not just a symbolic event but a substantial initiative to boost guava production and export from Sawai Madhopur. The event aims to facilitate farmers’ access to markets, technology, and policy support, fostering a convergence of knowledge, innovation, and opportunities for agricultural growth.
The festival agenda includes informative sessions on modern farming practices, agricultural mechanization, drone technology, high-tech horticulture, processing, and value addition, providing farmers with insights into the latest agricultural innovations. Attendees can look forward to a diverse range of value-added guava products on display, such as juice, jelly, squash, pulp, barfi, chutney, and pickles, alongside exhibitions of various guava varieties and competitions.
With participation from over 20 nurseries and around 200 stalls showcasing organic farming, horticulture techniques, animal husbandry, and dairy-related activities, the Guava Festival promises to be a comprehensive agricultural showcase, promoting Sawai Madhopur as a key hub for guava production and trade.
