On January 18, Sawai Madhopur will make history by hosting India’s inaugural Guava Festival during its 263rd Foundation Day celebrations. The festival, inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, merges the traditional Tiger Festival with the new Guava Festival, showcasing the region’s wildlife heritage and guava cultivation. Agriculture and Horticulture Minister Dr Kirodi Lal Meena expressed pride in this national platform that honors farmers and promotes the district’s agricultural prowess.
The Guava Festival in Sawai Madhopur signifies more than a ceremonial event; it symbolizes a significant step towards recognizing farmers’ hard work and the district’s agricultural strength. With over 15,000 hectares dedicated to guava cultivation and an annual production of about 4 lakh metric tonnes, Sawai Madhopur’s agricultural economy thrives, contributing Rs 6-7 billion annually. The festival aims to elevate the district’s status as a key guava production and export center, fostering connections between farmers, markets, and technological advancements.
Attendees at the festival can expect informative sessions and demonstrations on modern farming practices, agricultural technology, and value addition processes. The event will also showcase a variety of value-added guava products such as juice, jelly, barfi, and pickles, alongside competitions and live demonstrations of agricultural equipment. With participation from over 20 nurseries and 200 stalls highlighting organic farming, horticulture techniques, and dairy activities, the festival promises to be a comprehensive agricultural showcase.
