Scotland has revealed a well-rounded squad for their upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tour of Nepal. The team is set to play against both Nepal and the United States in a crucial phase of the competition. With valuable points at stake and qualification on the line, Scotland aims to maintain their strong performance in the standings.
The squad comprises a mix of promising young talent and seasoned players. Notably, Ollie Jones, a standout from the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup, has earned a call-up. Michael English, who made a memorable debut in 2024 by scoring 107 off 122 against Namibia, adds depth to the team. Captain Richie Berrington, with 738 runs in the current cycle, will lead the squad, supported by consistent performer George Munsey, the team’s leading run-scorer with 1049 runs.
The team also boasts all-round strength with players like Brandon McMullen, who has already taken 35 wickets in the competition. The return of left-arm seamer Bradley Currie, who has 32 wickets in CWCL2, further bolsters the bowling attack. Despite missing regulars Chris McBride and Mackenzie Jones for this leg, Scotland remains optimistic about their prospects in the upcoming matches.
Head coach Owen Dawkins highlighted the significance of the tour in terms of competition and experience. Dawkins expressed excitement about playing against two strong sides in Nepal and emphasized the passionate cricket culture in the country. Reflecting on previous encounters, Dawkins acknowledged the talent of both Nepal and the USA teams, recognizing the need for Scotland to deliver their best performances to secure victories.
Scotland’s visit to Nepal marks their first since February 2023 when they clinched the trophy in the previous CWCL2 series. Currently positioned second in the standings with 34 points, Scotland is geared up to play four matches in Kirtipur, aiming to solidify their quest for qualification to the next year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup global qualifier.
