Scotland has made a last-minute alteration to their squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, with Hannah Rainey stepping in to replace the injured leg-spinner Abtaha Maqsood. Rainey’s inclusion was approved by the Event Technical Committee following Maqsood’s withdrawal due to a metacarpal fracture sustained during a warm-up match against Pakistan on June 9.
This change poses a challenge for Scotland as they gear up for their second consecutive Women’s T20 World Cup, led by the seasoned all-rounder Kathryn Bryce. The team boasts a blend of experience and youth, with three players from the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup 2025 – Gabriella Fontenla, Pippa Sproul, and the uncapped Maisie Maceira.
Having secured their spot in the tournament through the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, Scotland is aiming to leverage the experience gained from their previous campaign in 2024. Despite facing a tough group including hosts England, defending champions New Zealand, and others, Scotland is optimistic as they head into the competition with a sense of confidence.
