Scotland’s Michael Leask was named Player of the Match after leading his team to a 73-run victory against Italy in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at Eden Gardens. Leask’s exceptional performance included taking 4-17 with the ball, the third-best figures by an associate nation bowler in T20 World Cup history, and smashing an unbeaten 22 off just five balls in the final over.
Reflecting on the win, Leask credited the team’s collective effort for their first victory in the tournament. Scotland posted a commanding 207/4, with George Munsey’s 84 setting the stage for Leask’s late heroics, propelling them past the 200-run mark.
Leask, known for his aggressive batting style, explained that he sticks to his approach regardless of the match situation. He emphasized the importance of maintaining consistency in his gameplay and contributing effectively to the team’s success.
Italy struggled in their chase, eventually being bowled out for 134, with Leask playing a pivotal role in dismantling their batting lineup. With this win, Scotland eyes qualification for the Super 8s, with Leask emphasizing the team’s focus on upcoming matches.
Scotland will face England next on February 14 at Eden Gardens.
